SXSW bound again

This photo was taken in Austin, Texas during SXSW in 2005. My friend Suzanne and I were driving around town in her car which was decked out with stickers she's probably collected since college. I'm excited to see her again this weekend. She's an incredibly talented sculptor and makes her living as a welder and to this day, is still one of the most intriguing people I've ever known. She once dreamed of living in a geodesic dome, but has yet to realize that. Her studio is pretty amazing though.

I didn't have much to say

I know. I haven't posted anything in over a month. Do any bloggers take long breaks? I might be one of those bloggers. February was just a rough month. I spent a lot of my time sending out resumes, meeting with people, going on interviews...and feeling frustrated. It's March 2nd and I'm still unemployed. (But at least I'm having a nice diversion with a handsome international aid worker I met at the Inauguration. Everyone should have been kissing someone that day!) My computer has been acting too so I haven't been able to edit any Flip videos. I'm working on that. I'm glad that Spring will soon be here so I can get outside and start getting my hands dirty. My worms are working hard in their bin and I'll have some nice compost for my community garden in a few months.
More vids and pics coming soon...

Inauguration Day

My friend Susan and I made it to the Mall on Inauguration Day and cheered with the other 1.5 million people when Obama took the oath. It was electric! Susan and I had both worked on Obama's campaign in NE Philly and there was no way we were missing the Inauguration.

This is a t-shirt design that was being sold at the "official" store on D street in Washington D.C. I snapped it on the day after the swearing in and they only had XXX Large left. Apparently, it was quite popular! I can see why. I have some Flip video of the day that I'm working on putting together. Enjoy the photo for now.

My first Flip video

Bad Girls and Despereaux underground from Debra McClutchy on Vimeo.

I bought a Flip video camera in December that I've become sort of obsessed with. It's tiny, unobtrusive and dead simple to use so I often just take it with me wherever I go. I like making offbeat/experimental videos with a consumer camera that was most likely intended for parents to videotape their kids soccer games. It's sort of like the Pixelvision for a new generation. It's low-res, low-def, but a fun toy to play with.

I shot this video on a number of subway platforms along the F train line. It's an ever-changing, underground, unintended art gallery.
